Monday 24 August 1903, The Sydney Morning Herald

INVERELL, Sunday.

To-day the body of an old man named Daniel Tierney, a carpenter, who had been missing since July 14, was found in the rivet a mile and a half below the town. The body was partially floating, the hands being fast in a snag. It is supposed that the deceased had walked into the river, which was in flood on the night of the disappearance. Tierney, who was unmarried, lived by himself on Ross Hill.

Amongst his effects when the police took possession was a splendid collection of tools and a library of nearly 300 volumes, including many standard works.
