Saturday 29 March 1856, The Sydney Morning Herald

TAMWORTH.

To the Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald.

Sir, – Will you kindly give insertion in your journal to the following:

The Police Magistrate of the district having left this township, which is the centre of a large population, we are consequently left without a Bench of Magistrates. The nearest justice of the peace lives fifteen miles off, and is necessarily unable to attend so frequently as is required. We are desirous of having the evil remedied, as there are gentlemen resident in the town who are quite willing and competent to fill the arduous office.

It is unnecessary to enter fully into the numerous ways the public suffer from this grievance.

Trusting the authorities will take the matter into consideration,

I am Sir, yours, &c,

SPES.
